Funaki Asisi (00:01.358)
Hey, what's up everybody? Naki here with the Recruit Grind and also with a much anticipated episode. I think as we talk through the Recruit Grind combined results, I know a lot of people have been waiting for these. So, I appreciate everyone's patience on them. It's only been a few days over the weekend, however, it is a tremendous amount of data and thanks to the help of my lovely family.

family, we were able to get through the data and start sorting it through. So we're gonna dive into those numbers, but before I get there, big shout out to Provo High School for allowing us to host this event at their school.

amazing venue for it and it's hard to beat the views that you get from that stadium and that school. And we're extremely appreciative of Kirk Chambers, the head coach there and his just openness to allowing us to do that. Hopefully we didn't destroy anything or put anything out of place. At least in my mind, we were pretty cautious of that. So if that's not the case, Coach Kirk, let us know.

But today, we're gonna be naming the top performers in every recruiting class per drill at the combine. And all of those that were top performers are going to get a custom graphic made and sent to you directly. But.

Again, before I dive into the numbers, let me cover a few things from the combine. And what I'd really like to cover, number one, is what we think went really well and things that we would like to improve on. First, the film turned out fantastic. I'm still cutting it up. When I say I'm cutting it up, I'm going through and tagging every single clip so that I know whose clips is whose.

Funaki Asisi (02:00.269)
And but the film itself turned out fantastic. It's not perfect. I say it's not perfect I think we had a couple clips that may have missed here there But I mean all things considered it turned out fantastically so huge huge shout out to all those that came and helped for film or with the film and shirts

I think we're awesome. They turned out fantastically as well. It made it 10 times easier to notice everybody on film. I know there was a couple guys that were trying to take him off. It got hot, but you just had to keep him on so that we knew who you were on film. So I appreciate everyone bearing through that one. But the shirts were fantastic. It was a white shirt with the recruit Grind combine showcase on the front and number on front and back. And a huge shout out to...

Funaki Asisi (03:40.812)
That's right.

Funaki Asisi (03:49.644)
So huge shout out to Steve at Game One who they provided just amazing shirts and amazing deal on those shirts so that we can have everyone nice and fitted for the combine. And I think another thing that we really loved about that, the combine in particular, was the competition level was really high.

We had some great athletes there, phenomenal athletes, impressive athletes, and I'm extremely appreciative of all those that turned out. And the other thing that I'd like to point out was the timed events. All of them were laser timed, which was extremely unique.

to be able to pull that off the way that we did. And those lasers were provided to us from Corner Canyon High School. Coach Kjar over there, we really appreciate you for getting those to us and providing them to Colin Larsen who then brought them over to us. So thank you so much, Coach Kjar We had some amazing vendors there. We had a snow cone truck. We had concessions, a concessions cart that was cruising around the whole time. Free haircuts.

from Lavish by Minor Details and I'm telling you right now, let me stop there for just a second. So I currently live in Texas. I think a lot of people know that by this point. But I live in Texas. I literally fly to Utah all the way to Orem where Lavish is so that I can get a haircut from their staff. I don't trust anybody else with my hair. No one.

And yeah, they were there giving free haircuts, which is unbelievable. Huge shout out to Jaymes at Lavish for coming and providing haircuts for everyone. So thank you. And we also had DJ Kiwi.

Funaki Asisi (05:47.66)
who was phenomenal. He had us bumping jams and tunes the whole time. I mean, I was grooving. There was a lot of times where I was probably caught dancing and I'm not as good as a dancer as Chris Randle So...

It probably wasn't as impressive. I mean we were doing the jerk at one point. I mean it was the last time anybody's seen someone do the jerk. It's probably been a while. So the other kind of group that I have to really really really really shout out is Watchsports .com for making literally making that entire event even possible. They really were the big group that funded a lot of our...

and made it possible for all these athletes to be there in the shirts possible, all of it, and the film, it was fantastic. So I think the other thing that I don't want to downplay that was a huge plus in my mind was the opportunity for a lot of these athletes to hear from these amazing coaches.

and these football professionals to hear about recruiting, to hear life advice that's gonna help you not only with your recruit grind, but it's gonna help you in whatever your pursuits end up being in life. So that was a massive thing for me. I know there's a lot of great feedback on that. Some athletes that got a lot out of it. So I'm extremely appreciative of those coaches. So.

Those are a lot of the highlights that I took away from the camp. But there's also some aspects that I'd like to improve. Given the venue that we had there at Provo High, we probably could have utilized the space a little bit better to cut down on the registration time. So I'm appreciative of people's patience there. We went a little longer.

Funaki Asisi (07:37.004)
than we probably should have. I mean, fatigue is most definitely a real thing. And the day was just fantastic. I mean, the weather, you couldn't have asked for better weather. But it doesn't matter if it's 50 degrees out there or 60 degrees, 70, the sun's beating down on you the entire time, then you can get exhausted. I mean, you really can. So for the future, be more mindful of how long we're at.

there with the athletes so we'll figure we'll get that one figured out and yes you heard me right I think the current plan and this was like I said this was a bit of a you know this is our first time doing a combine like this there's a lot of people that were involved phenomenal people like I said but yeah I think we're looking at doing this again and we will keep everybody in the loop for future events but

That's pretty much it from that standpoint. What I would actually really love, really love for all those that were in attendance at the combine, I would love your feedback. I would love for you to shoot us a DM on Instagram with the good, the bad, the ugly. Let us know how you felt about it, things that we might be able to improve on. May even put up an anonymous survey out for everybody just via email, so keep an eye out for that.

But we would really love to know how we did so that we can, again, as we so choose to look at doing this in the future, we would love some feedback so that it's beneficial as we make changes for everyone's sake to make it better.

So please, please, please reach out from that standpoint. If you do not have or don't feel comfortable shooting messages over via DM on Instagram or any of our social media platforms really, you can email recruitgrind at gmail .com. Just shoot it over and I'll get your response as soon as possible. But here's a few things that you have to look forward to this week.

Funaki Asisi (09:47.116)
The results and the photos from the event are going to be uploaded to the RecruitGrind website. That's www .recruitgrind .com. R -E -C -R -U -I -T -G -R -I -N -D .com.

Film from the event, like I said, was fantastic. And the only way for you to access that film is through watchsports .com. So you need to go onto watchsports .com, create an account so that the film can be uploaded to that account.

And then you'll have it for time and all eternity. You'll have that film to access and utilize for recruiting to refer back to when you come to next year's combine to see your progression and how better you look when you run. And maybe just, I'm just going to point this out really quick. There's a lot of you. I want you to critically evaluate yourself on these film clips of all these drills of how you moved one.

One shot in particular, when I say shot, I'm referring to the clip of how we shot the clip, is the 40 yard dash, the head on shot. Go look at that shot and see if you drift as you are running. I never realized how many people, how many young kids at this age are drifting in their 40 yard dash.

The straightest point, I mean the straight, sorry, the fastest way to get from point A to point B is normally a straight line. And some of you are running straight right, a little bit left, and then you drift back to the right as you're running your 40 yard dash. So it's eating up more time.

Funaki Asisi (11:41.708)
and you could probably shave off a few tenths of a second, at least a couple tenths, if you were to just run a straight line. So a lot of that is in development and again, there's some amazing coaches that we have out there for you that can really, really help you get better from that.

So again, huge shout out to those coaches as well. I'm gonna name them here so that you remember to reach out to some of these guys that can actually train you and help you. But the coaches that we had on staff, I'm gonna go through that real quick. Colin Larsen was out there. He played at Southern Utah University, younger brother of Tyler Larsen, who was also there. Tyler played the NFL for many years, currently just retired from the Washington Commanders as starting center with them.

We had Zach Van Leeuwen who was out there, Utah State player, runs a mental health company that, a practice that is really meant to help these young athletes and families with the mental aspects of sports performance. So reach out for him for those needs. Ryder MacGillivray who was, I mean, a love Ryder

And he's been through the wringer lately. And to come out on top is fantastic as he's left Utah State and transferred to the University of Northern Colorado, which has been awesome. Adam Griffee, who's University of Utah head coach for the rugby team there. Uani Ounga, who is training people in the Utah Valley area. I think he's also coaching with Mountain View High School. Uani played in NFL as well. And then you have a.

Tony who came out, played his tight end for Utah State University. We're extremely thrilled to have him. Jeremy Loveless, or Jeremy Hunt Loveless I should say. He is with the Ogden's Jets. So not only was he there to help with the camp, but he was also evaluating players that could potentially go play with his program. We had Tana Vea, which I hope his news comes out soon of where he's headed. But we caught him in transition and I was so grateful to do so and catch him that.

Funaki Asisi (13:52.488)
way because he was a huge highlight to the camp to share some amazing stuff at the beginning with these athletes to help you and hopefully all those of you who remember that take your time to go follow Tana and all these coaches honestly we had Carson Ryan who was UCLA transfer just barely transferred over to you

over to University of Utah is going to be playing tight end. Unfortunately, he's coming off a bit of an injury, so he wasn't super active, but man, he was phenomenal in helping us throughout the entire combine.

Chris Randle, or if you listen to our episode that I have with Chris Randle, Timer Done, as we like to call him. But Chris was awesome, showed up, helped out with multiple drills. Chris is a CFL vet. He serves, he still helps out with the CFL. I believe with the Players Association, I mean, just phenomenal person. He's also training guys out in Utah as well. He's kind of in that...

the point of the mountain area, I mean really anywhere from I believe Lehigh, I think he takes clients from pretty much anywhere that's willing to travel to him. But.

I mean, I know he covers primarily around that area, around the point of the mountain. So Chris is phenomenal. We had Cole Christensen came down from Utah State as well. Kyler Fackrell, who was a huge part of this. And Kyler, again, another NFL vet who has this ample amount of experience, who's going to start training guys in Utah Valley as well. And.

Funaki Asisi (15:28.646)
I mean, that's not it. I can still go for days. Bryce Walker. I don't know if any of you are following Bryce Walker, but Bryce is a strong man competitor. I believe at this point the dude is Matt. I mean, he was big when we played ball together. Bryce was like six, eight, six, nine, seven foot tall. I swear. But now he's just even more massive because,

He's just doing a whole bunch of strong man competitive type stuff and he looks phenomenal. You guys probably saw him. I know a couple people are like, is that the mountain? Is that the mountain over there? So no, that was Bryce Walker who's much cooler in my opinion. We have a couple guys that came out that have experience in both college and high school coaching. Calvin Williams, Connor Dumont. Then we had Kyle Van Leeuwen who has experience in high school.

Sorry, at the college level, playing at the college level as well. McKay Hillstead played quarterback at the college level. I mean, it was just stacked. Absolutely stacked with some amazing people. Yeah, I just extremely grateful for them. And I wish all those of you that didn't come, man, just put it on your calendars as soon as we get it posted up for next year. You don't want to miss out on meeting such amazing people and being around such amazing people. But.

Moving on from there, a couple more things you could look forward to. I already talked about that, but the photos and all the results are gonna be posted on recruitgrind .com. The film from the event will be on Watch Sports. Make sure you go get that account so you can get your film. And that's it. That's it.

Let's dive into the main part of this podcast, which is highlighting those athletes that just were ballers, just absolute ballers in their respective.

Funaki Asisi (17:43.365)
Now let's dive into the drills, the combine drills and the top performers. And we're gonna go by class and the best performer per class, per combine event. So starting with the med ball press or throw. And number one for a class of 2025 was coming out of Canyonview High School. He's offensive and defensive lineman.

Sam Vest and I will say I'm extremely impressed with Sam. I had a short conversation with him. He seems like an awesome kid and he's very impressive. I'm not gonna lie, very impressive. He passed the eye test to me really, really quickly. I'm excited to see what he puts out on the field but he also bowled out on the med ball press because the dude launched it over 30 feet.

which is not easy to do. I don't even know if I can do that anymore. So very, very impressive. Sam, good job. Class of 25. So coaches, make sure you're checking him out. Cetili Palmer, class of 2026 at a Skyview High School defensive tackle over 26 feet.

Okay, we're getting younger here. So as we get to these later classes, they're getting younger and the numbers stay up there, which is extremely impressive. And Brody Downs was for class of 2027, launching the med ball over 27 feet. Phenomenal. And then we have.

Taletono, Lassah, class of 2028, coming out of Dixon, this is gonna be in Provo High School, but launched at 23 feet. This is class of 2028 now. He launched that thing 23 feet. It's impressive, very, very impressive.

Funaki Asisi (19:32.836)
So moving on to the broad jump. So coming to the broad jump, we have Liam Guthrie at a Skyview who wide receiver, plays a little DB as well. I believe it's more safety than anything. But broad jump, 10 feet, nine inches for the broad jump. That is extremely impressive. Heck of a job, Liam.

I'm looking forward to actually watching your film this year, man. Make sure you're keeping me tagged in those, because I want to watch and keep up with you as you go. Out of class of 2026 is Max Stonebreaker. With a name like that, I'm pretty sure.

I mean, I would assume that you'd be almost like at the top of every single one of these. So such a cool name. Adam Maple Mountain High School is wide receiver. He launched himself nine feet, nine inches in the broad jump. And then class of twenty twenty seven coming out of Pleasant Grove High School was Brody Downs. Again, I think we just said his name on that last one. So impressive for him to take two events at the top notch. Nine feet, two inches. And he is a running back.

linebacker. So impressive job Brody taking two on that one. Okay now diving into the vertical jump. Now for those of you who want to know how we did this we got your reach towards the beginning of the event and we also just got a straight vertical jump for you to jump and hit the vert obviously.

But what we do is we take the difference between the two and that is your true vertical. And we had some pretty impressive ones. I want to give a shout out to an individual who had actually the highest vert.

Funaki Asisi (21:19.267)
I'm still trying to figure out a little bit more about him. I'd like to connect with him a little bit more, but Jerem Tapasaw I believe is Tapusaw. I hope I pronounced that correctly. I'm Polynesian I should be able to pronounce that correctly, but class of 2024 So he's actually this year's class out of Brighton High School middle -linebacker the dude launched himself 36 and a half feet

Very impressive, man. Very, very impressive. Absolutely. Let's chat more, for sure. You got some explosiveness about you and your numbers were fantastic throughout the entire event. Let's figure out why you're not getting recruited. If you aren't, maybe you are. I don't know. I should probably look into that a little bit more. Maddox Savay, Sabi, I apologize if I pronounced it incorrectly. Class of 2025, Maple Mountain High School. Maple Mountain's showing up for the event. But safety.

out of Maple Mountain and he jumped up for a 34 and three quarters jump for his vertical. It was extremely impressive. Well done buddy, well done. Well done. Zach Oxborough, Skyview High School wide receiver, 34 and three quarters of an inch as well.

Funaki Asisi (22:40.578)
Corbin Thomas came in for class of 2027 out of Brighton High School, wide receiver. Brighton, appreciate you guys showing up. 33 and a half inches on that one. And then Malossi, ooh, this is a tough one.

Ilaoa, Ilaoa, I wanna say it's Ilaoa. Okay, apologize if I mispronounce, but coming out of Dixon, wide receiver, 33 and a half inch jump. Awesome, extremely impressive. All of you guys jumping over 30, it's phenomenal, phenomenal, good job. The L -drill, which is a bit tricky.

I know not a lot of guys are actually fully understanding what the ill drill was all about and how to do it. So a lot of guys kind of learning on the fly there, but you at the top spot for the class of 2025 is coming out of Ridgeline High School, Dane May, who plays DB up there corner. He ran a 7 .23.

second L drill which is which is great honestly it's fantastic. Andrew Oxborough at a Skyview High School.

Ran he ran six point nine seven. He's class of 2026 class of 2027 Noah Dutre Fremont High School. He's wide receiver out of there. We're gonna six point six six I'm not gonna lie. I don't like that number too much, but I'm superstitious person. However That's a very impressive run man. I mean, that's that's one of the best of the day. So heck of a job there

Funaki Asisi (24:15.785)
See next one Damien to bowl Springville high school. He plays everything looks like one running back wide receiver He's playing DB to but he ran a six point nine three Eldro was just awesome man. Super super awesome Going under the pro agility Farron Hardy takes a top spot another maple mountain boy He is class of 2025 and he ran a four point three three

Awesome, John Peterson Preston high school. How about that? We got guys coming out from Idaho phenomenal John thanks for coming man big time, but wide receiver right receiver linebacker He ran a four point three one just fantastic numbers David Holloman coming out of Juan Diego high school He plays free safety running back four point four three

And then Damien Toupole, familiar name, we just said it, class of 2028 at Springville High School, running back wide receiver corner, 4 .31. So well, well done to all those on the Pro Agility. Okay, now here's the coveted 40 yard dash. I hope everyone's ready for this one. So we got Farron Hardy again, coming in top spot.

Along with, there's some ties here, Oliver McKay, or Mackay, hopefully I pronounced that one right. Again, class of 2025, he's at Pro Bowl High School, plays safety as well. Derrick Morehouse, another Maple Mountain guy, wide receiver. Man, Maple Mountain, you guys are gonna be stacked this year. Wide receiver, defensive back, all three of you ran it in 4 .7 seconds. Awesome, awesome job. And then...

Going on to class of 2026 got Griffin Demartini, which I know some of those Demartini's great family Love you guys Provo high school outside linebacker defensive end slash wide receiver tight end 4 .8 seconds that's pretty fast to be running that as a outside linebacker or tight end so heck of a job Mr. Demartini Brody Downs once again showing up for a class of 2027

Funaki Asisi (26:26.753)
And at a PG high school, as I mentioned, plays running back linebacker 4 .78 seconds on the 40 yard dash. And then Julius pan for Provo high school class of 2028 linebacker. How about this linebacker slash guard? He ran it in 4 .75 seconds.

Heck of a job to all of you that came out to the combine. That's the end of the numbers right there. Again, look for all the posted numbers on our website, www .recruitgrind .com. We'll have it up there by the end of the week. And if you have any questions or any feedback, please, please let us know. We're going to be sending out those graphics as soon as possible. First, I got to finish cutting up and clipping and tagging all of those clips so that you guys can get it on watchforce .com.

But again, I love you all. I'm extremely appreciative of everyone that turned out. Huge, huge thanks to all the volunteers that came out there. I mean literally no way on earth would have gone as smoothly if they weren't there. So thank you, thank you, thank you. And again, much love to all of you. I appreciate you listening to the Recruit Grind. Share it, put it out there. This is a bit of a gentleman's agreement. Literally the entire combine was free. So...

Just like these podcasts, it's free. The only thing I ask in return is spread the word about what we're doing. Because I think it's something that's pretty amazing. And if you attended, hopefully you felt how amazing that was as well. Love you guys. Peace out.
